How to generate and interpret fire characteristics charts for the U.S. fire danger rating system

The fire characteristics chart is a graphical method of presenting U.S. National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) indexes and components as well as primary surface or crown fire behavior characteristics. Citizen Fire Academy: Curriculum Package for Facilitators and Educators

The Citizen Fire Academy (CFA) program equips participants with the knowledge they need to improve fire preparedness and resiliency on their own properties and in their communities. This curriculum offers interested educators or agencies the teaching tools needed to conduct their own CFA program, including lesson plans, detailed agendas, tour ideas, and suggestions for presenting it as a hybrid course. Climate stress increases forest fire severity across the western United States

Pervasive warming can lead to chronic stress on forest trees, which may contribute to mortality resultingfrom fire-caused injuries. Longitudinal analyses of forest plots from across the western US show that highpre-fire climatic water deficit was related to increased post-fire tree mortality probabilities. Assessing potential climate change effects on vegetation using a linked model approach

We developed a process that links the mechanistic power of dynamic global vegetation models with the detailed vegetation dynamics of state-and-transition models to project local vegetation shifts driven by projected climate change.
