The incidence of large and severe fire events is increasing in the western United States with long-term implications for future wildfires, landscape successional mosaics, and wildlife habitat abundance and connectivity. Recent research demonstrates that recently burned areas often act as barriers to subsequent fire spread and/or mitigate the severity of subsequent fires.
This workshop will bring local area and regional managers and scientists together to share recent research findings and discuss their implications for vegetation and wildland fire management.
Please join us for a webinar to review last year’s fires and look ahead toward conditions for this year. Dr. Zander Evans will present an overview of the largest fires in the Southwest during 2017. He will share summaries of forest types and burn severities for each of the fires.
