Our Products

Newsletters

Our newsletters share recent fire science publications, resources, and news along with highlighting some of the recent work we have been doing.

Videos

NWFSC-created videos are short-form (1-6 minutes) overviews of fire science topics, presented through footage shot in the field and through the words and stories of scientists, community leaders, land managers, and more.

Fire Facts

Fire Facts describe and define foundational fire-related terms and concepts in plain, easy-to-digest language.

Archived Webinars

An archive with links to all past NWFSC-hosted webinars.

InfoGraphics

NWFSC-created infographics aim to summarize key fire science topics or findings through visual aids like icons, graphs, charts, diagrams, and creative layout.

StoryMaps

Dynamic and interactive presentations of fire science concepts, findings, and stories.

Podcasts

Our podcasts feature stories and discussions from fire science experts, journalists, and others.

Syntheses

Our syntheses summarize and organize the academic research on clearly defined topics to pull out themes, gaps, and common findings.

Needs Assessments

Needs assessments are the process by which we determine research needs in our region. The written reports describe the process, findings, and implications for each effort.

Research Briefs

2-page summaries of recent research from the NW with highlighted management implications.

Our Products: Recent Additions

Archived Webinar Spatial and temporal trends in causes of human-ignited wildfires [Added: ]

Red flag warnings (RFWs) are issued to alert management and emergency response agencies of weather conditions that are conducive to extreme wildfire behavior. Issuance of RFWs also can encourage the public to exercise extreme caution with activities that could ignite a wildfire.

Archived Webinar Interdisciplinary understanding and prediction of wildfires [Added: ]

Understanding of the conditions that contribute to wildfire ignitions and impacts increases capacity to mitigate wildfire risks. The Fire Program Analysis Fire-Occurrence Database (FPA FOD) contains information on the location, jurisdiction, discovery time, cause, and final size of more than 2 million wildfires from 1992 through 2020.

Archived Webinar Recreating and Relating to the Land After Fire [Added: ]

Wildfires reshape recreation access and experiences over the short and long term. A researcher shares emerging science that is revealing how people return to and perceive wildfire-affected landscapes, and a manager shares how they navigate decisions about supporting recreation in these contexts.

Archived Webinar The Reforestation Pipeline: Ensuring Equitable Access to Replanting [Added: ]

The science behind reforestation is not new, but in a changing climate, new challenges are rising around what to plant, where to plant, and who has access to planting opportunities.

Archived Webinar Post-Fire Restoration Infrastructure: Adjusting our Systems to New Patterns of Runoff [Added: ]

We reengineer and rebuild after wildfire through a range of treatments, trying to match our built infrastructure to new, amplified patterns of runoff.
