Using Unmanned Aerial Systems for Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring

In 2011 BLM funded a five year Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring (AIM) pilot project within the National Petroleum Reserve – Alaska (NPRA). The NPRA was specifically selected due to its mandate of supplying national energy needs while protecting surface resources and its need to better incorporate resource management goals within a scientifically sound monitoring framework.  Over the course of seven days in August 2015 more than 70 successful flights were launched collecting over a terabyte of imagery at eight field plots surveyed using the AIM method.
