Ten Years of Post-Fire Treatment Monitoring - Learning About Soil & Vegetation Recovery

Join us for a webinar discussing soil and vegetation recovery and post-fire restoration after the School fire on the Umatilla National Forest in southeastern Washington.

This webinar will feature the work of:

  • Penny Morgan, Professor in the Forest, Rangeland, and Fire Sciences Department at the University of Idaho
  • Peter Robichaud, Research Engineer, and Sarah Lewis, Civil Engineer with the USDA-FS Rocky Mountain Research Station

The 2005 School fire burned about 50,000 acres of the Umatilla NF. Various mulch treatments were used to control erosion on steep slopes, and native grasses were seeded to control weeds. Post-fire treatment effects on native plant recovery, weed movements, and erosion control were monitored from 2005 to 2011.
