We have such a highlight-packed newsletter this month that I have to use bullets to organize it all. We have a new proposal we've started on, a new PI and new partners, a new website, two upcoming webinars, a new research brief, plus the roundup of all the fire science articles, events, resources, and news out in the last month as always. If you have items you want us to highlight in the next newsletter, we'd love to hear from you. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

Autumn Ellison
NWFSC Program Coordinator  --> WELCOME DR. EMILY JANE DAVIS, PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR!

With our FY24-25 proposal, Dr. Emily Jane "EJ" Davis officially took the helm as NWFSC principal investigator. EJ has long been involved with NWFSC (see her article from our very first needs assessment!). She's been serving as the OSU lead for over a year prior to becoming the PI, and we are so excited to have her as principal investigator. EJ is also director of the Extension Fire Program, an associate professor of practice in the Forestry and Natural Resources Extension Program, and a faculty member in the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society. She is a social scientist and practitioner focused on fire-adapted communities, effective outreach and engagement, natural resource collaboration, workforce equity, and policy implementation. WELCOME EJ!

We also have several new partners with the start of this proposal that we are excited to work with--we'll be introducing them over the next couple of months. Meet the team! --> NEW Website is LIVE! After many months of work, our new website is live and ready for you to use! If you have any feedback, or find something that isn't working correctly, please let us knowNEW Research Brief
Biological Disturbance Agents, Fuels, And Fire In Western Conifer Forests.

Reports: Researchers working with the Fire & Smoke Modeling Evaluation Experiment (FASMEE) watch and study a stand replacement burn on Fish Lake National Forest earlier this month. NWFSC supported a videographer to capture and tell this story, and we can't wait to see what they come up with! Learn more about the project.
