Fire Weather Watch issued July 13 at 2:06PM PDT until July 15 at 9:00PM PDT by NWS Medford OR

1 year 2 months ago
...Complex fire weather environment evolves this weekend... .Hot, dry and windy conditions will remain in place over most of Oregon today, and approaching monsoon moisture from the south will increase the threat of lightning across the forecast area beginning today and even more so on Sunday. Storms will likely be dry today given a very dry sub-cloud layer. The threat for storms is higher on Sunday as the moisture content increases and storms become a mix of wet and dry. ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY EVENING THROUGH MONDAY EVENING FOR LIGHTNING ON DRY FUELS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 624 AND 625... * IMPACTS...Given the recent prolonged stretch of very hot and very dry conditions, lightning efficiency will be high to very high for fire starts. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. * AFFECTED AREA...For the Red Flag Warning, critical conditions due to gusty winds and low RH are expected north of a line from Chiloquin to Paisley while lightning on dry fuels is expected south, through this evening. Tonight through Sunday, all areas are at risk for lightning on dry fuels. * WIND...Southwest 15 to 25 with gusts to 25 and 35 mph. * HUMIDITY...7 to 12 percent. * THUNDERSTORMS...Isolated to scattered high based storms that are likely to have very little to no precipitation, especially outside of storm cores. Lightning strikes outside of precipitation cores are possible and cause for concern. * OUTFLOW WINDS...Gusts up to 35 mph. These outflow winds can travel up to 50 miles away from the thunderstorm that caused it. * ADDITIONAL INFORMATION...Storms will occur mainly during the afternoon and evening, with the greatest coverage expected Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening. Isolated thunderstorms are possible late tonight into Sunday morning and again Sunday night into Monday morning. Storms are likely to be dry today due to a very dry sub-cloud layer. Storms will trend wetter on Sunday, but remain a mix of wet and dry storms. * DETAILED URL...View the hazard area in detail at https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/map/?wfo=mfr
